Love That Leads to Eternal Life

(The Parable of the Good Samaritan, Luke 10:25-37)

Introduction:
  • Is there a point in your life that you have done a good deed to someone without expecting something in return?
  • Most of us have probably done it at some point in our lives, but have you ever questioned yourself the motive behind that act?
  • Have you done it out of compulsion, out of fear or out of love?
  • Is there a kind of love that leads to eternal life?

Here in our text this evening, we have come across a very familiar story from the Lord Jesus Christ about the Good Samaritan. I believe every one of us in this church have heard and read about this parable. For us teachers, we have told this story in our Sunday school and Bible Club classes many times. All throughout the Lord’s ministry in this world, Jesus Christ generally teaches his disciples, and the people that wanted to hear Him, through stories. These stories illustrate a moral and spiritual lesson. We call them parables. The Lord teaches this way because: It’s easier for children to learn through stories.

Avoiding Being Ensnared by Money

“Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into this world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.” - 1 Timothy 6: 6-8

Socrates, a famous Greek Philosopher, once said that “He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.” This saying is worthy to be pondered by all Christians, especially professionals.
We live in a society where materialism is highly valued and adored, a society that mostly advertises the latest material things that would give us temporal happiness. Every day, we are encouraged to pursue successes in our careers. This act is a noble thing to do (don’t get me wrong) as long as it is done for the glory of the Lord. Yes, for the Lord only. Other than that, you are guilty of idolatry.
There are only two simple choices that Christ laid out. In Luke 16:13, Christ summarizes His point about the parable of the dishonest manager. He said,

My Mission is Clear!

Hi! It's such a wonderful opportunity for me that you happen to come by in this website! I believe you are wondering why I named it "My Mission is Clear!" Well, just a brief background. The title of my site had actually came from an excerpt phrase of the "Fellowship of the Unashamed" letter that was written by a believer of Jesus Christ before he was martyred. This young man was unashamed to proclaim his faith in Christ so he was killed by his very own people or tribe for not denying his faith. The cost of following Christ... is to deny yourself, carry your cross and follow HIM. And the author of this letter did that.

My friend, you might think that this young man's story is sad. Indeed it is. But I'm gonna tell you this...he didn't waste his life! To receive Jesus Christ and have Him in your life as your Lord and personal Savior is the greatest and most important decision you'll ever make. Our life here on earth is very short. It is only a mist or vapor compared to eternity! Don't you think it's worth it to do things that have eternal value? Yes. Even it may cause your very own life!
